Clemson University and Johnson Controls announced today the establishment of the Johnson Controls Building Analytics for Sustainability and Health Center with a nearly $3 million commitment from Johnson Controls and its foundation to fund the Center, student scholarships and smart building research. This development positions Johnson Controls as a strategic corporate partner, which builds upon the company’s decades-long relationship with the university.

The Center will promote the importance of using analytics in achieving healthy and sustainable buildings. Located in the Watt Family Innovation Center, the center will be a multidisciplinary hub for innovation, education, outreach, and the development of student talent for the building operations industry.

Johnson Controls and Clemson University’s continued partnership is a testament to our clear visions and missions of transforming lives. Through Johnson Controls’ incredible investment, we are excited to announce the Johnson Controls Building Analytics for Sustainability and Health Center at Clemson University. This Center directly aligns with our bold strategic plan, Clemson Elevate, and will further strengthen our three core pillars — delivering the #1 student experience in the country, doubling research and transforming lives throughout the state of South Carolina and beyond.

A newly developed Building Analytics for Sustainability and Health Certificate will complement the Center activities. Students will have experiential learning opportunities, such as Creative Inquiry, capstone projects, and industry engagement. An annual call will be held for research projects in building analytics that will go out to the university at large. Johnson Controls is also contributing its OpenBlue Enterprise Manager, an award-winning digital solution designed to leverage a building’s data to meet sustainability goals, optimize safety and security and enhance occupant health and productivity.

“Buildings have transformed into dynamic, intelligent spaces thanks to advancements in data and AI,” said George Oliver, chairman and CEO, Johnson Controls. “The establishment of the Johnson Controls Building Analytics for Sustainability and Health Center at Clemson University is a testament to our collaboration, dedicated to creating superior campus environments and pushing the boundaries of innovation in the building industry.”

“We are excited to collaborate with Johnson Controls as a strategic corporate partner of the university and are grateful to have the shared goals of building a talent pipeline, increasing research, and augmenting awareness of this critical industry,” said Angie Leidinger, Clemson senior vice president for External Affairs.
