The Clemson MBA Program is excited to announce a new study abroad opportunity in Scotland this summer. Craig Wallace, Department of Management chair and professor, and Matt Hersel, assistant professor of management, are co-teaching Clemson MBA in Scotland this June. This new offering is a part of Clemson MBA’s continued commitment to increasing opportunities abroad for students enrolled in the program.
For the last ten years, Clemson has delivered an innovative study abroad experience in Oxford to give students real-life experiences in international business strategy and global leadership that they can immediately apply in their careers. “As the leader of the study abroad program at Oxford for the last decade, it has been wonderful to watch students grow through this international experience paired with their MBA coursework,” says Jane Layton, MBA academic program director. “The feedback from employers and students alike supports the importance of international business perspectives for professional students. We are excited to expand our offerings to Scotland as well.”
Students who make the trip to Scotland can expect hands-on experience and engagement with business leaders within the country. While some of the curriculum will be taught in the classroom, most of the time spent abroad will be on-site visits throughout Scotland. The three-credit hour course MBA 8990 Leadership Development will be broken down into four key areas:
- A discussion of course materials prior to departure, to prepare for site visits and activities in Scotland. Site visits include areas within Edinburgh, Glasgow and Killin.
- Designing a full-scale personal leadership development plan.
- Conducting a team-based leadership consulting project for a company based in Scotland. Students will have an opportunity to present their case study while abroad to participating partners.
- Completing reflection assignments based on the experiences from site visits and activities
The visit in Scotland will be from June 23rd through July 4th, and attendees will have a weekend free for personal travel around the country. “On the inaugural Scottish expedition, students will explore historic leadership through a modern lens while discovering Scotland’s magnificent landscapes and innovative enterprises,” says Wallace. “Join us for this unique adventure as we uncover the rich tapestry of Scottish leadership, past and present, across a variety of industries – from golf and whisky to global management consulting.”
The Clemson MBA Program is proud to continue expansion of study abroad opportunities for students in a graduate setting. This is an exciting chance for young professionals and working professionals to add to their strategic business understanding from an international perspective. “The Clemson MBA program will continue to expand study abroad opportunities that enhance our students’ value in the marketplace,” says Greg Pickett, Ph.D., Director of the Clemson MBA Program. “This experience in Scotland will take the coursework covered to the next level as we continue our push to prepare students for business leadership across the globe.”
