The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) increased the contribution limit for Medical Spending Accounts (MSAs) and Limited-use MSAs for 2025.
The contribution limit for 2025 is $3,300, up from $3,200 in 2024.
The IRS also increased the carryover amount of unused funds for 2025. The maximum carryover amount increased from $640 to $660. This means you can carry over into 2026 up to $660 in unused funds from your account. You will forfeit funds over $660 left in your account after the reimbursement deadline on March 31, 2026.
Benefits-eligible employees can enroll in an MSA through the end of Open Enrollment (Thursday, October 31) by accessing MyBenefits.
The deadline for elections will not be extended because the IRS announced the new limit before the end of open enrollment.
