Without a doubt, one of our favorite events each semester is when the staff in Student Affairs has an opportunity to sit down and enjoy a meal and quality time with students from ClemsonLIFE. This wonderful program, coordinated by Erica Walters, is of course designed to prepare young men and women with intellectual disabilities for competitive employment and independent living through academic coursework and career exploration.
There’s no coincidence the fall luncheon is typically scheduled just days before the Thanksgiving holiday. Vice President for Student Affairs Almeda Jacks and her executive team hosted the event on Nov. 20 inside the Hendrix Student Center and shared in the enjoyment of a holiday-style meal. The biggest highlight comes after the meal has been eaten, when Jacks personally scoops out ice cream and serves dessert to these valued members of the Clemson Family.
Jacks was quick to acknowledge it as one of her most enjoyable moments of the year.
“This is truly a great Clemson Family event,” she said. “These students could not enjoy the entire luncheon more than I do. I love working with and serving these students, as does our staff.”
CUSG President Mason Foley also attended the luncheon and enjoyed spending time with the students.

Clemson Football is in pursuit of its fourth straight Atlantic Coast Conference Championship on Saturday in Charlotte, whihch would put the Tigers in rarified air among its league counterparts. The 12-0 Tigers take on the Pittsburgh Panthers just after 8 p.m. and are in search of a fourth straight bid to the College Football Playoff as well.
One of the key ingredients behind the football team’s success has been outstanding fan support, and this season has certainly been no exception. Several student groups, including Central Spirit, have been avid supporters not only at home, but also on the road.
Now, these students have been recognized as one of the top fanbases in all of college football.
As part of a joint effort between ESPN and Taco Bell, the Live Más Student Section of the Year will be crowned at season’s end. Clemson has been named one of four semifinalists for the award, along with LSU, Penn State and Texas A&M.
The criteria used to determine the winner will be based on creative energy, endurance, impact, social good and tradition. A committee made up of broadcasters and journalists and chaired by ESPN College GameDay host Rece Davis will announce the winner next week.
Following Clemson’s 41-7 win over NC State earlier this season, the committee had this to say about the student section:
“The inhabitants of Clemson’s famed Hill had been waiting all season for a big-time showdown in Death Valley, and when the time finally came, they erupted on an overwhelmed NC State. Clemson’s student section made it clear they were veterans of the big-game environment, tormenting an NC State offense that wasn’t prepared for all the noise.”
Clemson students are encouraged to be part of the conversation by using the hashtag #LiveMasStudentSectionChallenge on social media.

Student Affairs Publications has continued its winning ways this fall. Led by Creative Director Tina LeMay, the department has earned multiple awards due to high-quality print and digital solutions to the benefit of various units within Student Affairs. The department has now received 107 awards for graphic design over the past eight years.
“I am proud of our team and our commitment to providing the best design solutions possible,” said LeMay, a Clemson graduate and longtime director of Student Affairs’ creative efforts.
In late July, the team was honored with an Award of Excellence by the University and College Designer’s Association (UCDA) for its Spring Family Reunion artwork. A few months later, the department claimed American Graphic Design Awards for its resident assistant selection poster and BikeShare ad.
Most recently, the Publications team combined with the Office of Student Transitions and Family Programs to earn an award for excellence in publication and resources from the Association of Higher Education Parent/Family Program Professionals (AHEPPP).
