Regina Steele has been named chief financial officer of the Clemson University Foundation, effective March 1.

In her new role, Steele will play a critical role in developing, growing and implementing fiscal management and reporting strategies in support of the Foundation’s mission. In addition, she will advise the Clemson University Foundation President and Chief Executive Officer Karen McCauley, board of directors, and other stakeholders while serving as an important partner to campus finance departments regarding management of gift funds.  Steele will also be responsible for the fiscal management of the Clemson University Real Estate Foundation and the Clemson University Land Stewardship Foundation.

“Regina’s broad experience in varied senior level financial roles within higher education prepares her well for this new role,” said McCauley. “I am confident Regina’s professional competence and stellar character will complement the high performing team she will lead for the Clemson University Foundation as we continue to support the bold vision and tremendous impact of Clemson University.”

Steele comes to Clemson after nearly 25 years serving with the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. Steele served as Associate Vice Chancellor and Controller, leading the fiscal operations for the Board and overseeing a wide range of business services for the University System Office. Prior to that position, Steele served as asset manager for the University System of Georgia Public Private Ventures Portfolio, where she was responsible for approximately 160 projects totaling more than $3 billion in principal outstanding bonds. Previous roles with the Board of Regents include real estate portfolio management, accounting, budgeting and auditing.

“I am truly honored to be named the CFO of the Clemson University Foundation and am overwhelmed by the warm and gracious welcome I have received from the Foundation and the Clemson University family at large,” said Steele. “I want to express my sincere gratitude to the CEO of the Board, the CUF Board of Directors, and the University for entrusting me with such a significant role. I consider it a privilege to serve in this capacity. I am committed to being a good steward over the fiscal and financial resources of the organization and to supporting CUF in its commitment to the mission and inclusive culture of Clemson University. As the daughter of two college professors, I believe in education and its power to transform lives for generations. I look forward to serving the citizens of South Carolina and to working with the Clemson Family to change lives, change perspectives, and ultimately change the world. I’m all in!”

Steele graduated from Hampton University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting in 1991 before earning her Master of Science degree at Kennesaw State University.
