Orientation will take on a different look this summer.
As Clemson University prepares to welcome its newest incoming class, the Center for Student Leadership and Engagement has been busy preparing a hybrid approach to transitioning and acclimating 4,600 students — and their families — to campus life.
The department contracted with and recently launched a new Virtual Orientation platform that is required for all new students. Virtual Orientation provides students with a jump-start as it relates to academic advising and course registration.
“Ready, Set, Roar! is supplemental to everything a student gets through Virtual Orientation,” said Glenn Spurlin, director of student transitions. “It’s a chance to come to campus and get everything a little more in-depth — more of a traditional Orientation experience.”
Ready, Set, Roar! allows new students an opportunity to build connections with each other, as well as faculty, staff and campus itself. A team of Orientation Ambassadors will lead students through an intentional, two-day process where they are grouped together by academic college.
A typical in-person campus experience will include small group time, presentations from campus administrators and academics staff, showcases with campus and off-campus partners, interest sessions and parent/guest socials.
In all, students can participate in the optional two-day campus experience for only $60, which includes lodging and meals.
“One of the key pieces is that a student’s Orientation Ambassador will be present the entire time,” Spurlin added. “They’ll have upperclassmen who are highly recruited, trained and skilled leading them around and introducing them to the Clemson Experience.”
