American dreamers: Immigrant mother sees all three children graduate from Clemson
Isabel Newton knew she wanted a better life as soon as she became pregnant with her daughter. Anaisa Figueroa was born in the small coastal mountain town of Tepic in Nayarit, Mexico, during a time of increasing hardship for residents of that area. Newton saw what life was like for the other children in the town and became determined to provide something better for Anaisa and any future brothers or sisters she might have. Now, all three of her children are Clemson graduates.

Two distinguished alumni will receive Clemson’s highest honor
Clemson University will award its highest honor, the Clemson Medallion, to two distinguished alumni — Professor Emeritus Beverly “Ben” Skardon and Trustee Emeritus Allen Price Wood. Clemson Trustee Leon James “Bill” Hendrix and his family’s contributions have been an instrumental part of Clemson University. Friday, Clemson announced the Hendrixes are again making a transformational difference at the University as they become the sixth Academic Cornerstone Partner with a gift of $2.5 million. Given in memory and honor of Pam Hendrix, the gift will establish the Pam Hendrix Center for Education Abroad, scholarships and the Dream Jar Curriculum.

A partnership for life-changing opportunities
Since 1981, Wells Fargo has given more than $4 million to Clemson University. Among its many contributions, the company has established the Wells Fargo Student Scholarship Endowment within the College of Business, awarding more than 100 scholarships to date. The company’s dollar-for-dollar employee matching program has also provided substantial support. With 350 Clemson alumni working for Wells Fargo, the program has generated more than $760,000.
Clemson recently celebrated another gift from Wells Fargo – an additional $300,000 gift benefitting Emerging Scholars and Call Me MISTER. $175,000 will support Call Me MISTER and $125,000 will benefit Emerging Scholars

Sold-out Men of Color National Summit at Clemson University creates a clear pathway to college
On April 25-26, young men once again will convene at the Men of Color National Summit along with other high school and college students, business professionals, educators, government officials and community leaders from around the country. The sold-out crowd of more than 2,000 attendees will gather at the Greenville Convention Center to identify and promote strategies that foster success from cradle to career.
Registration is open for the Men of Color Pre-Summit Institute. Clemson’s Call Me MISTER program will host the day-long event April 24.
