October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) and Clemson’s Office of Access and Equity and The Accessibility Commission have a slate of events planned to commemorate it. They include a screening of the documentary “Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution,” six “Lunch and Learn” programs and three keynote speeches by notable subject-matter experts, including Judy Heumann, who is known as the “Mother of disability rights.”

According to the Department of Labor’s official website, NDEAM was created to celebrate the contributions of America’s workers with disabilities past and present and showcases supportive, inclusive employment policies and practices. In recognition of the important role people with disabilities play in a diverse and inclusive American workforce, the theme for this year is “Disability: Part of the Equity Equation.”
