Staff members from Clemson University’s largest college collected canned food for hungry students, honored four of their colleagues and celebrated a community service project when they gathered Dec. 6 in the Madren Conference Center for their holiday party.

For the second year, staff members in the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences used the annual celebration to gather donations for Clemson Paw Pantry.

Staff award winners were (from left) Teresa McAllister, Leigh Humphries, Kaley Goodwin, and James Lowe. They posed for a photo with Anand Gramopadhye, dean of the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences.

Kelly Collins, the college’s chief of staff and operations, said that while it can be hard to think about some students not having the basic necessities, it sometimes is the case.

“As members of the Clemson family, we are called upon to look after those in need,” she said. “Your participation is most appreciated.”

Awards went to outstanding classified employees for performance, achievements, or accomplishments that are exemplary and that contribute to the success of the college. This year’s winners were:

Hattie B. Wagener Endowed Classified Administrative Staff Award: Leigh Humphries, Department of Bioengineering

Technical Award: James Lowe, Department of Materials Science and Engineering

Administrative Awards: Kaley Goodwin, School of Computing; and Teresa McAllister, Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering

Collins also thanked staff members for helping in spring to rebuild the boardwalk at Abernathy Park along Lake Hartwell.

“We hope to continue that community service tradition in spring 2019, so look for details after the first of the year,” she said.

Holiday cheer was plentiful throughout the celebration, from the poinsettias on the stage to the warm wishes from the college’s dean, Anand Gramopadhye.

“No matter the tradition, custom or belief, if you are celebrating this December, the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences extends warm wishes for a holiday filled with family and friends,” he said.
