Forty-one students commission as second lieutenants in joint ROTC ceremony

Clemson University’s Air Force and Army ROTC units held a joint ceremony to commission 41 second lieutenants — representing four branches of the armed forces — on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. The ceremony took place in Tillman Auditorium. Twenty-one students received commissions into the United States Air Force — including two into the Space Force — and 17 commissioned into the Army. Additionally, one student commissioned into the United States Marine Corps. It marked the first time in Clemson history students earned commissions in four different branches at the same ceremony.

Following the commissioning ceremony, the newly appointed officers participated in a Silver Dollar Salute at Clemson University’s Military Heritage Plaza. The ceremony marked the first salute received by the officer from an enlisted member. As a sign of mutual respect, the officer presented the enlisted member with a silver dollar.
